Our center focuses on the development of theory and technologies about wastewater treatment with the representatives of small reservoir and de-centralized wastewater to ensure the water safety in Three Gorges reservoir. With the theoretical support of electrochemical simulation, we have utilized membrane separation, microbial acclimation and electrochemistry to elaborate the electron transfer mechanism during these treatments and to build the model of water quality parameters and their correlated electrochemical signal. We aim to develop the innovative water quality analyzer, wastewater treatment process and instrument, which can be applied as the demonstration of intelligent solution for safety guarantee system of drinking water source in Three Gorges Reservoir.  


We have accumulated a wealth of expertise on practical experience and theory development about pollution control for wastewater. So far, we have secured multiple funds, such as National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the 100 Talents Programme in Chinese Academy of Science, the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, the National Key Scientific Instrument and Equipment Development Project, National Natural Science Foundation of China (Key Program) and so on. Our center has consistently published 200 research paper in the top journals of Environmental Engineering, including Environmental Science & Technology, Water Research, Journal of Membrane Science, Chemical Engineering Journal and Bioresource Technology. In addition, we have also published 5 monographs and 30 more patents. For the cooperation, we pride ourselves on taking a collaborative approach to research since we have built extensive networks with individuals, universities and research institutions around the world (University of Cincinnati, Hongkong Polytechnic University and University of Technology Sydney). For the industry linkage, we also work closely with a range of industry partners, delivering tailored engineering solutions to help our partners achieve business success. Our major achievements include the First Prize of Natural Science in Guangdong Province, the Second Prize of Natural Science in Chongqing and the First Prize of Excellent Demonstration for Environmental Protection Technology in Chongqing.


Currently, we have 17 permanent staffs together, including 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 2 senior engineers, 6 assistant research fellows and 4 engineers. We also have 4 postdoctoral research fellows, 25 HDR students and 5 technicians.
