Master student Xuehai Yue published a technical paper “Reactive and microbial inhibitory mechanisms depicting the panoramic view of pH stress effect on common biological nitrification” in Water Research (IF: 13.4), DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.watres.2023.119660. In this work, the inhibition effect of pH stress on nitrification process and microorganisms was studied through systematic experiments, and the misunderstanding of microbial activity evaluation was corrected. Finally, the reactive and microbial inhibitory mechanisms of pH stress effect on nitrification were discovered. The two mechanisms formed a panoramic view of pH stress effect on nitrification, which will advance the understanding of nitrifier adaptability and regulating nitrification in wastewater treatment processes.
