Our study about municipal wastewater treatment by a novel moving bed biofilm reactor has been selected the cover image of Bioresource Technology (Volume 347), DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.biortech.2021.126339. This work was collaborated with Yuxi Normal University and Shandong University.

As we reported earlier, PhD student Jia Li proposed a pilot-scale moving bed biofilm reactor-assisted dual-anaerobic-anoxic/oxic (D-A2MBBR) system to resist organic loading shock from municipal wastewater. The obtained results showed that this system could optimize the internal/external electron donor supply (one-carbon-dual-use) and enhance the biomass retention capacity under the condition of organic loading rates of 417.9~812.0 g COD m−3 d−1. The enhanced metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates and energy promoted simultaneous nitrification, denitrification and synergistic phosphorus removal processes.
