After being scrutinized by the Chinese Society for Urban Studies, the social organization standard “Water quality – Determination of biochemical oxygen demand based on microbial coulometry” has been officially issued recently and will be implemented starting from Dec 27th, 2021.
This standard was selected as the first batch of social organization standards authorized by the Chinese Society for Urban Studies. We completed this standard after several procedures, including project launch, investigation, panel discussion, public poll and scrutinization.
This standard is based on the intrinsic function between microbial coulombic yield during the organic matter degradation and biological oxygen demand (BOD) index. It also defines the microbial coulometry to measure the BOD in aquatic samples, including surface water, underground water, grey water and industrial wastewater.
Based on the microbial coulometry, our center has developed LL series BOD-Q water quality analyzer (portable, 8 channel, 64 channel). This new method abandons the commonly used consumed dissolve oxygen detection method. By using the microbial coulometry, the BOD detection time can be greatly reduced from 5 days to 5 hours with less than 10% deviation. Besides, from 4 and up to 64 samples can be measured simultaneously. In addition, the data measured by BOD-Q analyzer will be uploaded to the cloud platform for real-time instrument monitoring and upgrading, and further data processing.
