PhD student Jia Li published a technical paper “Unveiling organic loading shock-resistant mechanism in a pilot-scale moving bed biofilm reactor-assisted dual-anaerobic-anoxic/oxic system for effective municipal wastewater treatment” in Bioresource Technology (IF: 9.642), DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.biortech.2021.126339. In this study, he proposed a pilot-scale moving bed biofilm reactor-assisted dual-anaerobic-anoxic/oxic system to resist organic loading shock from municipal wastewater. He came up with a finding that the integrated D-A2MBBR could optimize the internal/external electron donor supply (one-carbon-dual-use) and enhance the biomass retention capacity under the condition of organic loading rates of 417.9~812.0 g COD m−3 d−1. The enhanced metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates and energy promoted simultaneous nitrification, denitrification and synergistic phosphorus removal processes.
